Bio
Zora started teaching at VIU as an auxiliary instructor in the ABE department in 1997 after completing her Master’s Degree in English Literature on a full UBC graduate fellowship. She has taught English at the VIU campus in Powell River, where she grew up, and Math and English upgrading at Tla’amin. Currently, Zora teaches ABE English at the tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus in Powell River, as well as instructs in the Writing Resources Room, teaches first-year university English courses, and coordinates VIU Powell River’s University Studies program. This combination of jobs allows her to help adult learners gain a solid foundation in writing, research and documentation, and critical reading skills as they transition into post-secondary studies or begin their university careers. She finds the opportunity to pass these skills on particularly gratifying since she found that what allowed her to excel in various courses at university was the ability to write a good essay. She values being able to design her courses to allow her to give students plenty of feedback on their writing to ensure that they develop the skills they need to be successful.
