Gord Buzzard

Gord is the Chair responsible for Literacy and ABE in Nanaimo, and when he’s not buried in paperwork, he teaches English and Reading. Gord was born on Vancouver Island, and he is a graduate of Malaspina College’s (now VIU) ABE program (in 1971!). He has worked in sawmills, apprenticed as a millwright, was a prison tutor, and briefly taught high school. He is a real believer of the power of education to transform lives, having seen it first-hand. Education remains, for Gord, an exciting opportunity. He’s been teaching at VIU for something over 30 years, but he still looks forward to each new semester and the promise of growth and change it offers to every student.
